Recent TESTIMONIALS

"Being one of your local clients a while back, you did such a good job I can still feel the lasting benefits especially when watching this video LOL.  Tried others picked you randomly off the internet, it was a pleasure to meet you and benefit from your treatment, because you really listen to a client.  You let me bring my own music, which you suffered in silence, LOL.  Hope I don't have to see you for a while, LOL." - B. Harris

"Had wonderful hot stone massage yesterday by Henry Tang. Everyone should have the experience-incredible and so therapeutic, thanks Henry for great afternoon x" - Deana

"My name is Barbara, I am 68 years old.  I had given up on finding anyone to help my sciatica and muscle pains.  Just had a computer, had browsed all the aches and pain sites, found Henry Tang, liked his profile and made an appointment.  Went to his home address to avoid the Exeter traffic.  On the consultation before the first treatment, I told Henry I had bad sciatica especially when driving, really painful muscle aches in upper legs, and very limited sidestep action.  Couldn't get up steps and stairs very easily.  Because of this I wasn't walking the dogs up the woods, so getting no cardio exercise and losing my 'puff''.  I know I must keep mobile at my age.  If I overdid the gardening I was in pain for days as muscles got so tight.  I also told Henry I hadn't had any treatment for about 15 years, as the one person who did help me had moved to Spain.  I had tried a few after, but they didn't suit me, and I had given up.  Henry will listen to you, and he works very hard to find what is best for you.  I have had 7 weekly treatments.  He really got into my knotted muscles, I can feel a lot of the lumps have gone, sciatica is getting easier, and I recover more quickly if I overdo the gardening.  I am now walking a mile or two 3/4 times a week, the dogs are very happy with their 'new mummy' and I have my puff back. Apart from being very good at what he does, Henry is very easy to talk to about your problems, I am very glad his name came up on my computer, and I made the phone call." - Barbara

Did you know...?

...that 40% of the population experience some kind of on-going discomfort or movement restriction issue which can be directly related to soft tissue tension? Soft tissue therapy encompasses many effective methods of gentle precision manipulation and working subtly yet deeply penetratingly hands-on on the body to gradually release soft tissue tension anywhere in the body, working not only on the body where pain seems to be but also in areas often over looked by other disciplines but acknowledged as being very much related by a sympathetic soft tissue therapist.  The soft tissues of your body can yield, respond and release in a profound way when handled in just the right way, soft tissue therapy will usually initiate the yielding and then the practitioner will follow along as your body's own innate intelligence takes over and guides the physical response and release.  The impact of trauma or extreme emotions can also be locked up at a celluar level in the physical body tissues, soft tissue therapy is a very safe, nurtring and effective way of releasing both the physical and emotional elements trapped in behind soft tissue related pain and movement restriction issues.  Many people are not even aware that there is a trauma or emotional stress element invovled in their physical pain or movement restriction impairment, such examples can include birth trauma, accident, injury, unrelenting stress and major surgical procedures. Why not get both sides of the coin addressed for the first time and begin your release?

Outcomes and benefits YOU could receive from a series of sessions with us....

Have you been putting up with a long term pain condition caused by chronic muscular tension, joint stiffness or other soft tissue related restrictions?

Most muscular and joint related problems are either caused by being stuck in a static or straining posture for too long, or repeated stress on a joint or related group of muscles by performing a series of repetitive but fine movements like when griping on to an object like a club or racquet during a sporting activity for example. Prolonged use of computer keyboards and mice is another common example which we see all too often.  Minor injury can ensue as a result of these various strains, perhaps eventually leading to acute injury.

Are you perhaps fed up with or worried about the amount of pain relief medication that you have been taking to date as a result of your chronic condition?

When the body is subject to trauma or sudden shocks such as a sudden but forceful jolt to the head in a car accident resulting in what is commonly kown as whiplash, the muscles and soft tissues in the body lock down and contract so as to protect and minimise potential damage or harm, this contracted protective state can be locked in almost indefinitely days, months and even years after the event causing restricted movement and pain. With the careful application of appropriate soft tissue therapy techniques, these no longer needed states of holding can be safely released and the associated restrictions lifted resulting in freedom and a great sense of release.

Appropriate stretching and warm down exercises are just as important after physical activity as it is before commencing it.  Stretching is also important after being stuck in a static posture for long periods of time such as when sat down watching television, using a computer or when bending over repeatedly when gardening.

Have you already been to see various health care practitioners but with little or no progress?

What would you be doing or what could you imagine yourself doing now if you were introduced to natural, drug free and proven pain relief alternatives instead?

Long term pain or any chronic condition even if bearable but not fully dealt with can cause other knock on side effects and secondary ailments manifesting over time such as stress, irritability, depression, lack of concentration, fluctuating energy levels or poor digestion to name but a few.  If we ignore what may seem like minor health challenges, eventually but insidiously over time they will become acute health challenges perhaps leading to disability or requiring the need for hospitalisation and intense medical attention.

There is no need to just put up with all this any longer!  The truth is that many common aches, pains and excessive stiffness problems are caused by either muscular or soft body tissue related restrictions which advanced remedial bodywork and physical therapy techniques have been widely proven to provide significant relief from.  We refer to the collective tools in our therapy toolbox that we make use of as bodywork and physical therapy as it eclectically incorporates techniques from various forms of advanced massage styles drawn from western sports injury rehabilitation massage as well as eastern clinical and remedial bodywork approaches which may not necessarily be recognised as massage to those who have only ever experienced a standard "relaxation massage".  We strive to actively engage each client's body in the treatment in order to encourage an initiation of the re-education process that often happens when the physical body and mental awareness of the person come together more coherently so that self awareness is enhanced which initiates the discovery process that can lead to the eventual relieving of the cause of pain.  Learning how to better tune into our body, listening in to the subtle cues our body is giving us about its state of health and realising how much in fact we can take conscious control of actions to readjust our physical body and associated thoughts based upon these signals is the empowering result we are aiming for.  In the vast majority of cases, reliance on pain relief medication is either reduced or dispensed with altogether through these natural health enhancement techniques.  In some cases, the need for minor surgery has also been avoided.

Chiropractors believe that a healthy and well aligned spine is the cornerstone to good health and well-being, this is a thesis that we are inclined to agree with as a sound starting point for initial investigation, however we provide a differing alternative approach to spine and back related health in that we do not directly manipulate and adjust the bones of the spine itself, rather we concentrate on the intricate muscular and soft connective tissue elements that attach along the entire length of the spine from the neck through down to the rib cage and then down finally to the pelvis and hip area.  Lower back problems can cause neck related issues and neck related issues can cause lower arm and wrist related stiffness or tingling and numbness issues to name just some common patterns that we have experienced with our clients which appear to travel through the length of the spine so to speak.

We have trained with and continue to have access to the collective knowledge of highly experienced practitioners of the techniques that we practice.  The 2 senior consulting trainers who we have trained with have over 30 years combined experience in successfully utilising these particular natural health enhancement techniques in their own respective thriving natural health clinics.  These techniques whilst extremely effective and widely taught to massage therapists in the USA are seldom seen here in the UK, which is a shame but this is where a mini revolution in natural healthcare could and has already begun.

Our aim is to facilitate noticeable relief from your presenting condition in approximately 4 to 6 weekly treatment sessions (the number of required weekly sessions will vary dependent entirely upon your own unique condition), plus as part of your treatment programme we always give you the knowledge of empowering self treatment techniques, suggested beneficial lifestyle changes and simple exercises that you do at home which will accelerate your recovery and prevent relapse once the initial set of intensive treatment sessions have been completed.  Thereafter, we highly recommend taking up our offer of monthly (or whatever time interval best suits your requirements) maintenance sessions where you can learn more about how to take your health to the next level or just simply enjoy a health enhancing treat, either way you'll have made a worthwhile investment in your long term health and well being.

Apart from the physical benefits of having a reduction in long term pain and increased mobility, some of the other benefits of following a treatment programme can include:

- Increased ability to perform at work or at home
- Increased self esteem and self belief
- Improved concentration and focus
- Improved digestion
- Stabilisation of mood
- Energy levels throughout the day become more consistent and sustained
- Ability to relax and deal with stress becomes easier

** Frozen shoulder often requires a commitment to a long (couple of months) course of weekly treament sessions, but not only do all the muscles surrunding the shoulder joint need loosening off, myofascial release work is required to gently encourage the tissues in the joint capsule to gradually loosen up over a period of a couple of the next few sessions.  It's the loosening up of the joint capsule itself which is the part which takes the longest.  Sometimes the joint capsule isn't involved at all and in which case (it wouldn't be true frozen shulder) the treatment would be much simplified with far fewer sessions being involved.

** TMJ (Temporo Mandibular Joint) dysfunction can cause severe pain and jaw related problems including teeth grinding, uneven bite, discomfort during jaw movements such as when chewing food or yawning, but can also be the cause of many seemingly unrelated conditions such as unexplained migraine or tension headaches and neck, shoulder and upper back tension.  TMJ dysfunction can occur from the jaw being constantly clenched due to unrelenting emotional stress or from the minor physical traumas to the head and mouth during dental surgery through to delayed shock reactions from major traumas such as whiplash and other head, neck or spine related shocks.  Henry at ISCA Therapies has attended a special training programme developed and researched by an experienced dental nurse who is also a practitioner of remedial massage and craniosacral therapy, combining these 2 areas of her professional experience along with numerous successful trails on dental patients in her clinic has resulted in a treatment protocol which has in some cases prevented the necessity for having dental appliances fitted or other orphadontic intervention such as surgery.   Contact us today for a no obligation consultation.

** Hot stone fusion massage eases and melts through chronic tight muscules and facilitates pain release...  Each stroke with a thermal stone is roughly equivalent to 5 strokes from a conventional hand massage, the heat penetrates deeply and encourages an increase in circualtion and blood flow with fresh nutrients to speed up healing in the local area.  Just as we might use ice as first aid for an acute injury or go for a soak in a steaming hot bath to relieve aches after a long stint of exercise or ease long term joint and muscular aches, thermal stones (used hot or cold) can be used as effective tools by an appropriately trained therapist to melt away and release tension in your stiffest muscles as well as promoting more efficient healing of injured soft tissues in a luxuriating soothing yet deeply penetrating remedial treatment.  Suitable for both sports people and athletes as part of a training regime as well as non sporty types alike.  A hot stone massage treatment with basalt stones is like a cross between having a deep tissue massage and a sauna all in one but because the heat from the stones melt tension away easier you will find you feel less sore afterwards.  You will see quicker results with a hot stone session as tension dissipates quicker with the heat and as another bonus you stay more supple and more pain free for longer between subsequent treatments, in other words the treatments lasts a lot longer (assuming they're aren't other factors in your life which could be quickly un-doing the benefits when you're outside of the tretatment room - we can of course provide useful practical advice on suggested beneficial lifestyle changes as well).  Contact Henry for further details.

** Reconnective Healing - Massage and physical type therapy work with the body may not always be the ideal approach for all scenarios and situations, the answer for you could well be Reconnective Healing.  Henry has trained personally with Dr Eric Pearl and his Reconnection teaching team in this profound hands off the body healing modality which has proven its validity through being the subject of a number of scientific studies by a number of the world's top researchers, for more information visit our dedicated website at www.reconnectivehealing333.wordpress.com
